Dr. Bateman’s passion is education.
The Bateman Horne Center in Salt Lake City is much more than one of the very few treatment clinics that focus on chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and fibromyalgia (FM). Its extensive video library of educational talks – containing talks on everything from sexual health to navigating the school system to orthostatic intolerance to sleep and fibromyalgia – is unsurpassed. These aren’t videos of ten or fifteen-minute presentations – they are long, in-depth talks given by professionals in the field.
It’s no surprise that Dr. Bateman would seek out people like this. She’s an educator par excellence. Put her up on a stage and she will convince you that ME/CFS and FM are real, serious and also fascinating diseases that deserve your attention. The presentations on ME/CFS that she and Ron Davis gave at the Sedona conference sent chills up my spine.
In 2014, after reviewing the ME/CFS literature for the Institute of Medicine (IOM) report on ME/CFS, she gave one of the more fascinating talks I can remember on where she believes chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) and fibromyalgia originate.
Online Video Series on the Fundamentals of ME/CFS and FM Begins
Now – starting on her birthday – she and the Bateman Horne Center are beginning an online video series covering fundamental issues (sleep, pain, cognition, etc.) that people with ME/CFS and/or FM face.

- 11/16 Activity Intolerance and Post-Exertional Malaise (PEM)
- 11/23 Restorative Sleep
- 11/30 Chronic Widespread Pain
- 12/7 Cognitive Impairment
- 12/14 Orthostatic Intolerance (OI) Syndromes
The first one starts today and you can sign up for the series here. After you sign up look for a button to pop up that will take you to the first video.
This is just one of several efforts underway at the Bateman Horne Center to expand awareness of and educate patients, doctors and researchers about ME/CFS and FM. Those will be covered in a future blog.
I watched the first episode and it’s excellent. A must-see for all ME/CFS and fibro patients.

If they have reorganized the site, you also can search by video title. Another option is to go to the Bateman-Horne Center Youtube channel.

where did you find the first episode to watch? I looked on the bateman horne center and did not find it. but I am cognitivly verry impaired.
I tryd to play what in cort’s blog is (video) but it was just a 1 minute video.
Anyone else having problems signing up? After I hit the ‘sign me up’ button, it just keeps saying ‘submitting…’ but never progresses.
Yes, I have a problem accessign it as well. I hit the sign me up button and got a frownie face saying the Bateman site refused to connect. 🙁

Yes. I did not receive a confirmation email either. I don’t think there was one given. Our role right now, as I see it, is making a difference for the BHC by alerting them to some issues. 🙂

That state signup feature is gone – you should be able to get the series now.
yes the state signup is gone and I signed in but got a screen form after to fill in some questions and to do then something, I can not remember anymore, something and that you also would get a mail. But on the site after signing in and where was said to fill in questions, it was blanc and there where no questions and nothing happened at the site and I even did not get an e-mail. can you please help me again cort? can you also show me where I can find the first video at the bateman horne center? I am a severelly bedridden patient with trouble findig the first video. thank you verry much!!!

Stephanie explained that the dBHC wants the video series to be available to everyone. If its not now because of a quirk I’m sure it will be.
Actually, no so-called “ME/CFS researchers” have ever looked into the evidence and phenomenon that started the 1988 “Chronic Fatigue Syndrome”
The whole lot of them “moved on” without even bothering to look at the first clue in the CFS syndrome.
I know this will piss people off.
So be it.

Hi Erik. You mentioned in a previous comment that a researcher was showing that a problem for ME/CFS Is not being able to synthesise Proteins. I cannot synthesise proteins either and am on replacement essential Amino Acids. It was the most effective treatment I received in the past 23 years. It virtually gave me my life back. Doctors Data tested my 24 hour urine collection which showed that most of my Amino Acids were rock bottom. Included with the results was a prescription for my needs. My ND then sent it to be filled by a compounding pharmacy. I take one heaping teaspoon morning & evening.
If I’m reading your comment correctly, should all ME/CFS/FM people be tested for their Amino Acid status and replaced if needed? I was only diagnosed with FM although many of my symptoms mirror ME/CFS

Glad to hear it. Issues often crop up when a new program is started. The BHC certainly jumped on them fast and hopefully it’s smooth sailing now.

Well, I tried to connect to Bateman’s classes this morning, but alas, I got the forever ‘submitting’ notice as well. Just tried at 4:00 p.m. and am still getting the endless submitting…

I filled out the form using Safari and it got hung up on the ‘submitting’ button. Tried again using Firefox and it worked fine. Submitted, got the video and the email. If you’re having difficulty I’d suggest trying a different browser.

Hey y’all, I had the same experience as Carol. Safari browser was causing the form not to go through. I tried again with Chrome browser and it worked a treat! I listened to exercise tolerance which is 2nd talk and it was excellent in all ways.I was practicing “pacing”without knowing underlying reasons or parameters .I’m surprised that I got “pacing” nearenough effective but can do it with knowledge and conviction and refer to the talk if necessary.Dr.Bateman heroic!Thankyou.I will set up a small regular donation.if I can do that.
