Many people don’t even know they have it. Others suffer from diarrhea for a couple of days and that’s it. Researchers are learning, though, that a select few can remain ill for years, even decades.
The big medical websites that say Giardia infections are relatively mild and usually easily treated have been ignoring the string of studies coming out of Norway suggesting that even this minor infection can have devastating effects in the wrong person.
Find out the latest on the efforts to figure out why some people are still sick years after this bug has apparently been eliminated from their system in this Simmaron Research Foundation sponsored blog:
Even “Minor” Infections Can Cause Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (ME/CFS)
I’ve been told I have CFS but I’ve as far as I know never had an infection from that parisite so where does this leave me ? I do have POTS and MCTD and dysautonomia and Costco (short for that inflammation inbetween my ribs and in my chest and fibro in my upper body and autoimmune issues as well any info or opinions are welcome
For some people – probably a minority – ME/CFS begins with a parasite; for others some other inciting factor is responsible and for others no apparent trigger can be found.
My ME/CFS was a direct result of the Hep B vaccination!
After having Giardia, apparently undiagnosed for about 2 years, and testing negative, I went to a different doctor and a different lab. The different lab is used by the U.S. State department, for testing international workers who come back to the U.S. with, ahem, bowel issues. Bingo. This lab found Giardia. My husband, infant, dog, and I all had it. But other than this one lab and one or two others, I’ve never had a doctor or a test find Giardia even though these places _insist_ they use good labs. This is such a shame. I went thru pregnancy, childbirth, breastfeeding and more, getting sicker, weaker, and racked with fever for about 2 years. Now ME/FM for about 218-20 years. Makes you wonder!!
Dear Mrs. Kay,
my son suffers from CFS/ME since a Gardia Lamblia infectio, which was treated with a single shot antibiotic. All stool tests were negative since then? What makes the test you had different from the other labs?
Thanks for your help.
Dear Mr Braun,
Is your son cured from ME/CFS now that he has taken antibiotics?
Thank you.
