This is a stellar account of the hard and lonely road patients must travel in an effort to get relief. I was appalled at the opiophobia and foolhardy rush to take opioids from people in acute pain. The system is broken. Patients sometimes travel from doctor to doctor, and sometimes are left to self-treat when they do not obtain critical answers. This is a timely article.
